Web Browsers

Browser Wars!

The competition in the web browser market is fierce. The two main competitors, Microsoft and Netscape, are constantly adding features which will only work with their browser, plus trying to catch up to the other. So who is winning? Well an analysis of my site for a typical day showed the following:

Unless there is something specific you want to do, most sites will work just fine with just about any browser. The one feature which is helpful is the ability to view tables. If you want to experience multimedia on the Internet, Microsoft's brower is probably better. I use both but have recently been migrating toward Microsoft for my browser. I also use Spry Mosaic ocassionally which seems faster than the others.

[If you are on AOL you are pretty much stuck with their browser which is not real good and quite slow. It is possible to run third party software with AOL. Check keyword WINSOCK for details. I've not tried it but if you can't get it to work, drop me a note and I'll see if I can help.]

Where do I get these Browsers?

Well as with most things you have to have a browser to get another browser. Assuming you have something, you can get browsers - FREE - from the following places:

Or you can to go the store and buy one. Be careful when downloading or purchasing a browser that it will work with your operating system (Win 3.1, Win 95, Mac, etc.)

If you have Internet Explorer 3.0 and want to experience VBScript, Active X Controls, scrolling marquees and music, check out the math game Erin and I designed.
